Alexander Alexandrov was born in 1959 in Ukraine.
He began studying ballet in 1969 at the Kiev Dance Academy. In 1997 he began dancing as a soloist and teaching ballet at the Opera House in Kishinev (Chișinău), Moldova. In 1991 he immigrated to Israel with his wife Margarita, also a soloist at the Opera House. With Yonatan Karmon’s help, the two made their Israeli debut in the Gvanim BeMahol (Shades of Dance) Festival. After this performance, Alexandrov was admitted to Bat-Dor, and began teaching in the Bat-Dor Studio as well as in Bikurei Haitim Center in Tel Aviv.
In 1996, Alexandrov retired from dancing and ever since has been teaching classical ballet in the Vaganova Method. He was ballet master in Batsheva in 1997, and subsequently in other Israeli companies including Bat-Dor, Inbal Dance Theater, Vertigo, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, and the Israeli Opera’s “The Project”. Alexandrov teaches at the Jerusalem Music and Dance Academy (JMDA) and in the JMDA High School’s dance program, and also teaches master classes worldwide. He is a member of public committees in the dance area, competition judge panels and the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.
