Emanuel Kipnis

Emanuel Kipnis (1936-2020)

Born in Tel Aviv, Kipnis served in the IDF as an officer and was injured in the 1967 War. After his discharge, he studied painting with Dan Hoffner, later Director of Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and in Aaron Avni’s studio. Kipnis furthered his education in Florence and Paris. Upon his return to Israel, he began teaching painting and stained glass art. Ever since then, he has been working in Tel Aviv and presenting in solo and group exhibitions in Israel and worldwide. Kipnis has illustrated poetry books, designed posters and publications, and drawn sets and wall carpets. In addition, he also collects Israeli art.
For fifteen years, Kipnis designed posters, programmes and engravings presented as gifts for Friends of Batsheva, including an engraving for the dance Psalms (1966).
Kipnis was awarded for several of his works: the Jerusalem of Gold wall carpet on permanent display in the Ben Gurion International Airport; a logo for Hapoel sports team; the logo of Avik Pharmaceuticals; and a poster for Batsheva.
