Haim Tchelet (1933-2014)
Lighting designer. Born in Tel Aviv, he studied theater at Tel Aviv University and Yale.
Tchelet was a lighting technician with Batsheva from its very first season, and worked as chief lighting designer and lighting consultant from its second season until the 1980s. As part of his work with the company he designed dances for Martha Graham dances (adaptations of Jean Rosenthal’s lighting designs), Linde Hodes, Norman Walker, Glen Tetley, Pearl Lang, José Limón, Norman Morris, Anna Sokolow, Oshra Elkayam Ronen, Moshe Efrati, Talley Beatty, Devorah Bertonov, Rena Gluck, Paul Sanasardo, John Cranko, Jerome Robbins, Rina Schenfeld, Mirale Sharon and Yaakov Sharir.
In addition to his work with the company, Tchelet taught in the Tel Aviv University Department of Theater and also designed lighting for many troupes and theaters in Israel. He was also one of the pioneers of Israel’s Educational Televition, where he worked as director, producer and designer until his retirement.
Haim Tchelet passed away in 2014.
