Naomi Bloch Fortis

Naomi Bloch Fortis was born in 1962 in Moshav Beit-Yitzhak to parents of German descent.

Naomi Bloch Fortis studied modern dance in Netanya and danced in Rina Schenfeld’s company until 1986. In 1987 she cofounded the Blue Run Dance Company together with Avi Keiser, which performed for three years. Upon her return to Israel she retired of dancing.
In 1990, Bloch Fortis began working in Batsheva, first as Ohad Naharin’s assistant and in 1998-2009 as the company’s CEO’s and co-artistic director. Under her management, Batsheva developed many projects, including the Furo project (2006) staged in Sweden and Tel Aviv, and Phaza Morgana staged in Timna Park, Israel, together with the Isrotel hotel chain, as well as several community projects. In addition, Fortis initiated the establishment of the Friends of Batsheva associations in the US and Australia, and expanded the company’s sponsorships in Israel. In 2009 she retired from her position as Batsheva’s CEO and was replaced by Dina Eldor.
Throughout the years, Bloch Fortis has served as the Israel Festival of Jerusalem’s Dance Consultant and Chair of the Artistic Committee of the Suzanne Dellal International Dance Contest. She has also been a member of several public boards and committees, including the Public Directorate of the Suzanne Dellal Center, the Executive Committee of the Sam Spiegel Film & Television School and the Advisory Committee of the National Culture Education Program.
Since 2011, Bloch Fortis has served as co-director of the Jerusalem Culture Season. She is also the professional manager of the Tel Aviv University Faculty of Management’s Culture and Art Management Course.
