Noa Dar was born in1963 in Kibbutz Degania Alef.
Dar studied ballet in the Jezreel Valley regional studio with Hedda Oren and Oshra Elkayam Ronen. In 1980, she left the kibbutz and began studying in the Jerusalem Music and Dance Academy High School with Yaron Margolin. In 1982, she joined Batsheva 2 and danced there for two years. In 1984, she left the company and moved to New York. Supported by a scholarship from Merce Cunningham, she studied in his studio, as well as with Cindy Jane, and danced in Zvi Gotheiner’s, Jeannette Stoner’s and Neta Pulvelmacher’s companies, among others. Upon her return to Israel in 1986, Dar became one of the founding members of the Tamar Dance Company in Jerusalem, where she began to choreograph. In 1990-92, Dar lived, created and performed in Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin, supported by grants from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and the French Foreign Ministry.
In 1993, she established the Noa Dar Dance Group in Israel, which is active to this day. Her choreographies for the company include Fragile (1993), Zenana (1995), In a Black, Black Country (2003), Tetris (2006), and Skin (2014). Her works have been stage in festivals and various platforms worldwide.
While choreographing for her company, Dar also created works for Muza, the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, and Transitions Dance Company in London, as well as Batsheva Ensemble, for which she choreographed Lachrymose (1995) and Trio (1996).
Dar is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Minister of Education and Culture Prize for outstanding young choreographers (1996), Rosenblum Award for the Performing Arts (2008), Minister of Culture’s Creation Prize (2009), and Landau Prize (2010).
