Stern was born in Israel and at age six started studying dancing in Dvora Bartonov’s studio in Holon, and later with Rena Gluck in Tel Aviv. After her military service she danced in Giora Godik’s musicals and in the Cameri Theater.
In 1965, she joined Batsheva, where she danced consecutively until 1981, except for brief interludes. Over the years she performed in dozens of dances, including as a solo, and even won the 1981 Yair Shapira Award for her role in Rooms, choreographed by Anna Sokolow. Her dances include: Sargasso (1965); Psalms and The Betrothal (1966); Voices of Fire, Reflections, Blind Man’s Buff, Shore Bourne (1967); Rehearsal!… (?),The Road of the Phoebe Snow, Come and Get the Beauty of It while It’s Hot, The Brood (1968); Baroque Concerto No. 5, Moves, The Exiles, La Malinche (1969); Percussion Concerto (1970); Martha’s Vineyard, Ami-Yam Ami-Ya’ar (Song of My People – Forest People), Pace & Step Together (1971); Three out of Me (1972); Taltela and Dream (1974), The Green Table (A Dance of Death) (1975); The Garden of Kali, The Mountain of Spices, The Great Variation, Fantasia, Voices (1977); Stravinsky Dance Circus, Daughters of Shiloh, Recollections of a People, Wilderness, Swamps & Forest, Portrait for Two (1979); Ties (1980); Radius (1981).
After her retirement from Batsheva, Stern taught in dance schools throughout Israel as well as in the US, Spain, Poland, Finland and Turkey. She served on the Omanut Laam and National Culture Program committees, as well as in the judge panels of the Sharet Foundation, the Mia Arbatova Competition and the International Sergei Diaghilev Competition of Choreographic Art. In 1999, with the help of a scholarship from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, she completed further training as a teacher in the Stuttgart Ballet Company and the Frankfurt Dance School. Stern is a Pilates instructor and teachers trainer.
