Ruth Kleinfeld

Born in South Africa, and moved to Israel with her family at a young age and grew up in Jerusalem. She studied ballet in Clara Bundi’s studio in Jerusalem and later at the Jerusalem Music and Dance Academy. In 1968 she moved to New York and trained with Martha Graham, Maggie Black, May O’Donnell, Donald McKayle and Elizabeth Hoddes.

In 1972, Kleinfeld returned to Israel and joined Batsheva, where she danced in Dome of Heaven (1973); Dream and Cell (1974); Apocalypse, Trek, The Green Table (1975); Scenes from the Music of Charles Ives (1978); Stravinsky Dance Theater, Metaphors and Wilderness, Swamps and Forest (1979). She left Batsheva in 1980.
Kleinfeld was one of the first teachers who introduced Pilates in Israel. She opened a Pilates studio in Herzliya Pituach and taught in it until the mid-2000s.
