“I officially joined the Board of Directors through a three million dollar grant from the America Israel Cultural Foundation, which I was a member of. In return, the Foundation demanded it would have a representative in the Council, and since then I’m there. The Council today has more presence than it had back then, and the Board of Directors is very strict with the rules through strong active committees. The philosophy is: “increasing involvement without intervening”. I think it works. A lot of people come to the meetings. The protocol states we must assemble every three months but we assemble more.
The establishment of the Ensemble, at the beginning of Ohad’s tenure, was a great victory, achieved after a tremendous effort finding resources. The Ensemble was a solution to the fact that many dancers wanted to join Batsheva. The Ensemble was supposed to be instead of a school. It’s a surprise it became a professional body in itself. It was unexpected. This process began with the troupes mix in Anaphase.”
